Hill's Science Diet Grain Free Dog Food - an unbiased review, star rating and recall history by the editors of The Dog Food Advisor.
I recently started buying Science Diet dog food for my small breed - yorkie poo dog. He had a urinary tract infection with potential kidney damage and it really woke me up to things I could do to make his health better. I don't know that his previous foods were to blame, but I have read and heard so many good things about Science Diet. I have been very impressed as well. Corn is not one of the main ingredients like in most dog foods, which makes me feel more confident about it right away. My dog seems to like it, and it is small kibble so he is able to eat it. He used to occasionally throw up his other food, but this seems to stay down really well. I think he actually has a better appetite since I have started using it as well. His hair seems to be shiny and soft and he seems to be energetic and his urinary tract infection has been improving with antibiotics. I have been pleased with this food and even though I don't know for sure if it is working, I will keep trying it because I have confidence in reading the ingredients, even smelling it, that is is high quality and good for my dog.
My vet had no idea the food could be causing the issue, until I recommended trying a different brand or something prescription for a while (my vet originally thought she had a vitamin B-12 deficiency, a kidney issue, or was eating things off the ground). Now my puppy is on prescription food (Hill's Science Diet) to calm her gut for a month until I decide to try a completely different brand of puppy food. Especially after reading the other reviews, I'll never feed my dog Diamond Naturals again - it's not worth the risk. I think the company needs to seriously consider a recall on the bags of food put into stores within the last 5 months. Please take conscientious action, Diamond Food!

UPDATED ON 01/22/2016: I have taken the time to read many of the reviews for Hills Corporation Science Diet dog food. I feel obligated to continue with an update on the ongoing issue I had with the rat I found in the Science Diet Adult dog food. I contacted the Hills Corporation company and they sent me two ten dollar coupons for my troubles. I sent them an email back letting them know that two ten dollar coupons were an insult. I will never buy their rat infested food again. I want to tell all of you and anyone that has a pet please do not feed your pets this food. I have had Labrador Retrievers for over 20 years. I have always fed them Hill's Science Diet. Not only do they love it, but the quality of this food will show noticeable changes for the better in your dogs coat, eyes, and nose. No other food makes our dogs' coat shine like Science Diet. If you have Labradors, I highly recommend that you disregard most of these reviews and try it. I have never heard of dog food alone causing a dog to die. Once, our puppy ate a third of a 40 pound bag in the middle of the night. He threw it up, and was hungry again 12 hours later. Most dogs love Science Diet.
